The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), one of the premier private engineering colleges today in the country, was set up in 1946 by three retired engineers Sri.S.Ramaswamy, Sri.D.V.Narsimha Rao and Sri.T.Rama Rao. Today NIE is one of the premier institutions in the country offering BE degree in Civil, Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Industrial Production Engineering and part-time BE Evening Course) for practising Civil Engineering Diploma holders.
The NIE also offers Masters Degree in Hydraulics, Power Systems,Production Engineering & Systems' Technology, Computer Application to Industrial Drives, Master Degree in Computer Application(MCA) and Engineering Management and P.G.Diploma in Business Computing. The NIE also offers Doctoral programmes in specialised areas in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Industrial and Production Engineering. Besides establishing various centers like Water Resource Centre, Centre for Appropriate Rural Technologies, Entrepreneurship Development and Consultancy Cell, the NIE has set up state of the art laboratories such as Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory, Solar Energy Laboratory, Remote Sensing Laboratory and an Instrumentation cell. Thus, the institute is contributing a great deal by way of developing relevant man power for the Industrial and Research Organizations of the country.
