CIPET
is a Premier Institute fully devoted to the service of plastic Industries since three
decades. This is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Chemicals and
Fertilizers, Government of India. This Institute has the privilege of being associated
with UNDP and World Bank Programmes. The Association has yielded in strengthening its
facilities and expertise for providing technical services to Plastic conversion and user
industries.
To meet the growing need of Plastics
Conversion Industries in the country CIPET is providing services through its eleven
Regional Extension Centers, one among them is located at Mysore in Karnataka. This
Extension Centre has the latest infrastructural facilities for running the regular
training programmes,technical services and to take up specialized developmental works.

OBJECTIVES
The major objectives of the Institute are:
- Development of skilled manpower for plastics industries.
- Upgradation of technical knowledge through advanced training
programmes.
- Quality Control Programmes and standardization of plastic
materials and product.
- Technical Consultancy & advisory services.
- Design and development of moulds, dies and plastic products.
- Application development in the area of Plastics.
- Import substitution for developing awareness for conservation
of energy and scarce natural resources through the use of plastics.
PROCESSING :
This section is equipped with Injection
Moulding Machine, Blow Moulding Machines, Exrusion systems Blown Film, pipe and
Reprocessing, Automatic Compression Moulding Machine, Pad Printing Machine and Secondary
Processing Machineries. This department undertakes processing jobs and developmental works
for industries.
TOOL ROOM :
Tool Room is equipped with Conventional
Tooling Machineries, CNC Milling Machine, CNC Electric Discharge Machine (EDM) and CNC
Lathe. This department undertakes the manufacture of injection moulds, blow moulds,
extrusion dies for Industries.
DESIGN
This division is equipped with Conventional
Draft Boards for providing regular training. Softwares & Hardwares for methodical
product and mould design of plastic Components and undertakes the developmental work for
product and mould design for industries.
TESTING :
The Testing Centre is equipped with following facilities :
- Chemical / physical / Thermal / Mechanical / Electrical /
Environmental and Optical evaluation of plastics material and components.
- Testing of products like pipes, films, composites etc.
AMENITIES
- Library & Information Centre is equipped with good
collection of technical books / Periodical / encyclopedia / reprographics and audio-visual
facilities.
- Furnished residential hostel facility with modern kitchen for
Long -term / Short term Trainees.
- The campus provides the recreational facilities like
playground, canteen, reading room etc.,

for Managers, Supervisors & Technicians in Plastics Industries in the areas of design,
Tooling, Processing Testing & quality Control.

- CIPET - BPTA(British Polymer Training Association ) vocational
Courses for Woven Sacks Industries in association with AIFTMA (All India Flat Tape
Manufacturers Association).
- Skill Development Courses for PGD-PPT students for Woven Sacks
Industries in association with AIFTMA.
- Special Training Courses in association with Government of
Karnataka.

CONSULTANCY &
ADVISORY SERVICES
Advisory Services cover mainly the technical problems
relating to:
- Material Selection for new products substitutions.
- Machinery/Equipments selection.
- Setting up of Tool Room/Processing Units/Testing Laboratories.
- Process optimization & large scale development of
materials & products.
APPLICATIONS & RESEARCH
DEVELOPMENT
The Institute undertakes developmental
assignments sponsored by the conversion & User Industries and other agencies leading
to indigenization, newer application of plastics and helping for effective absorption of
imported technology. The results of such research activities are disseminated to the
industries for economizing on Processing, improvement in quality of products and material
development.
The technical staff of CIPET is actively
involved with various committees and sub-committees of several National Agencies and
organizations involved in furthering the activities on plastic technology.
MAJOR BENEFICIARIES
- Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) in establishing a multi layer
film plant at Bangalore.
- Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) Mysore
in developing polyurethane rollers for dehusking machine.
- All India Institute of Speech & Hearing (AIISH) Mysore in
developing a Hearing Aid.
- A private company at Bangalore in establishing a PET Bottle
plant.
